Julie Miller Memorial Trail
Dedication,
Joshua Tree National Park

On January 6 The Morongo Basin Chapter dedicated the Oasis
Extension Trail at the Visitor's Center of Joshua Tree National Park to the
memory of Julie Miller who helped found the trail in the name of Camping Women.
Attending the ceremony were (clockwise) Karen M, Martha A, Sandy B, Marge G,
Debbie H, Judy C and Frances S.
Aside from being one of the Camping Women's
earliest members 25 years ago, Julie Miller served in many offices and committees. She
started the Central San Joaquin Chapter in 1980 and later started the Morongo
Basin Chapter of Camping Women, served on the National Board of Directors for
many years, and was named National Camping Woman of the Year in 1989. Julie died
in August of 1999 and left part of her estate to Camping Women.
Campership Presentation to Girl
Scouts from Julie Miller Legacy

Marge Gleason making presentation speech for Julie Miller
memorial campership gift to the Girl Scouts of Tierra del Oro Council.
Marge's speech: "In 1986 I was privileged to go to the
Girl Scout Diamond Jubilee Roundup at Farragut St. Park in Idaho. Camping Women
had been invited to have a booth in the World of Outdoors at that 75th
anniversary celebration. The organizing and leadership that inspired those 2700
girls to create a miniature city where there was nothing before was incredible.
And now I am here in the midst of inspiring leadership again,
to represent Camping Women again.
Julie Miller was a dedicated Girl Scout professional for 17
years and also one of the earliest members of Camping Women. She served in many
capacities for many years in our all-volunteer organization. When she left a
portion of her estate to Camping Women, our national board voted to make a
donation to provide camperships for Girl Scouts who otherwise wouldn't be able
to afford summer camp.
In memory of Julie Miller, and on behalf of our President,
Connie Coan, I present to the Girl Scouts of Tierra del Oro this check for
$4,000."
